Sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) is a salt of the compound Na6[(PO3)6].
Commercially used sodium hexametaphosphate is typically a mixture of
metaphosphates (empirical formula: NaPO3) of which the hexamer is one,
and is the compound commonly referred to by that name. Such a mixture is
more accurately called sodium polymetaphosphate. They are white solids
that dissolve in water.
Application
» This substance is used in the following products: cosmetics and personal care products, coatings, fillers, putties, plasters, modeling clay, adhesives and sealants, inks and toners, pharmaceuticals, polymers, washing, cleaning products and fertilizers.
» Other releases of this substance into the environment are likely to result from: indoor use (eg machine wash fluids/detergents, automotive care products, paints and coatings or adhesives, fragrances and air fresheners) and outdoor use.
