Glycerin is a triol with a propane structure substituted with hydroxy groups at the 1, 2 and 3 positions. It has a role as osmolyte, solvent, detergent, human metabolite, algal metabolite, Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite, Escherichia coli metabolite, mouse metabolite and geroprotector. It is an alditol and a triol. Glycerin is one of the most important and widely used ingredients in skin care formulations. Glycerin, a water-soluble, odorless, colorless, natural humectant, is widely used as a humectant, solvent or lubricant.
